Sleeping in activewear – and other tricks to encourage exercise
Short on time? Here are some life hacks to help you fit more exercise into your day.
Did you know some people sleep in their activewear to make their morning workout that much easier?
Others lay out their yoga mat next to their bed each night, so they remember to stretch as soon as their feet touch the ground in the morning.
When you’re short on time, it can help to create little ‘exercise hacks’ – reminders to move your body in a way that feels good.
Here are some ideas to try.
Sleep in your activewear.
Lay a yoga mat next to your bed to remind you to stretch in the morning.
Leave a set of dumbbells in front of the kettle – no coffee until you’ve trained!
Keep a spare set of exercise shoes in the car – you never know when you might fancy a walk.
Set an hourly alarm on your phone reminding you to stretch.
Ask a friend or family member to text you reminders to move during the week (accountability for the win).
If you use a digital calendar, create recurring events for exercise.
Hide the TV remote so you have to get up to change the channel.
Park your car around the block (if it’s safe to do so), forcing you to walk further.
Use your smartphone as a prompt – choose a quote or image that inspires you to exercise and save it to your homescreen.
Pay yourself – or donate to a good cause – every time you exercise (like a gym membership, but in reverse).
Plant demanding, time-consuming crops in your garden – ones that need a lot of watering and weeding.
