Interview transcript
Driving engagement through workplace science
Groov: Could you describe your experience implementing a workplace science strategy in your organisation?
John Frear: We sat down with the Groov team where they presented the broad outline of the workplace science strategy to us. It was a framework that we could then work on collaboratively. And what we've ended up with is something that's really well tailored to meet the needs of our people. I'm really inspired and excited about the potential impact that we can have.
Also really fascinated by the both the insights and the tech that drives the insights from a Groov perspective and how those are going to surface what's important to our people, what's going on with them, how we can support them, those sorts of things.
Groov: What are the key challenges you aim to address with your workplace science strategy?
John Frear: The exciting thing with the workplace science strategy, and particularly Groov Anywhere, is that it gives us the ability to customise and direct people's attention through prompts with Microsoft Teams to build that level of awareness, first and foremost, so that our people know what it is they have access to and then engagement and use in the various initiatives and activities.
We know that we've got a good bunch of initiatives and offerings for people. But one of the challenges that we often face is how do we make sure that the right information is getting to the right people at the right time so that they can take advantage of it. So it's about that building awareness first and foremost, and then accessibility quickly after that, so that not only are they aware of what they can access, but that then they can access it as, as quickly and as easily as possible.
Groov: How is your workplace science strategy enhancing the configuration of the Groov Anywhere platform?
John Frear: We had a good session around the table, so to speak with Carolyn, with Laura, with Matt and Danielle as well. They presented in the first instance, the theory and the science behind what could be included in the overall strategy. And then from there, we were able to just talk it through and discuss it and determine, hey, is this piece going to work for us?
And if so, do we take it as delivered off the shelf or do we need to customise it? When do we want to prompt our people about their ability to access their annual health checks, for example? How do we want to notify our people about the fact that they can tap into mental health support through the clinics that we've partnered up with, those sorts of things.
So we develop those at quite a granular level. We adjusted it to best suit our needs and what we know is going on around our business and for our people.
Groov: What outcomes are you hoping to achieve with your workplace science strategy?
John Frear: Overall, we want it to improve the wellbeing of our people. The workplace science strategy is an enabler for us as a business to get our offerings in front of our people, but also an enabler for our people to engage more easily and more quickly in the initiatives and so forth that are on offer to them.
