We’ve released a new tool in Mentemia called the Soundscape Mixer!
The Soundscape Mixer is designed to let you create your own soundscapes as the perfect track to relax, meditate, or fall asleep to. We’re all different, so this tool lets you customise the right sound for you, with four unique soundscapes to try.
The four soundscapes are: Sleep sound, Connect with nature, Less stress, and Relax. Let’s explore the soundscapes, simple steps to create your own soundscape, and the benefits of sounds and creativity.
Sleep sound
Be transported into space and drift off to the sounds of white noise waves and meditative binaural deep drones. A great addition to your bedtime routine.
Connect with nature
Explore the sounds of the djembe drums accompanied by the sounds of the forest and river. Nature sounds are proven to have a restorative effect on our psyche (more on that below).
Less stress
See how your stress is washed away by the sound of calm ocean waves, jungle sounds from the Bali jungles of Ubud, joined by a mix of gentle and vivid musical notes. Research shows that the slow whooshing sounds of the ocean can help to calm us and tell our brains not to worry.
Relax
Find your chill with the relaxing base drone, uplifted by a musical piano and harp track, and serenely balanced by the sounds of garden tranquility.

Choose your soundscape. Tap to open.
Drag the buttons up and down to remix your perfect soundscape. Easily readjust the relative loudness of each sound in a pack to get it just how you like it.
When you’re done, just hit the close button in the top left.
Now let’s dive into why this tool is beneficial for your mental wellbeing.
Being creative strengthens your brain and makes you feel good. Creativity activates and strengthens the problem-solving, decision-making part of your brain (prefrontal cortex) to help rewire the brain for resilience and wellbeing - in simple terms, it makes you feel more optimist and better about yourself.
That’s largely thanks to a chemical in your brain called dopamine. When you do creative things, dopamine is released and the result is a positive, uplifting feeling. Our brain loves releasing dopamine, so it will subconsciously encourage us to continue being creative.
And the good news is that doesn’t mean you have to be a creative genius or devote your days to creativity to get the benefits. A study of 50,000 people in the UK found that even a little time spent on a creative pastime like singing or painting has emotional benefits.
This includes using creativity to avoid stress, giving the mind space to reassess problems and make plans, and a means of self-development to face challenges by building up self-esteem and confidence.
